Rahul, in particular, played a patient innings, combining defensive strokes with timely attacking shots as he looked increasingly comfortable at the crease.
Padikkal also showed confidence in his approach and helped India maintain a healthy scoring rate despite conditions that offered some assistance to Sri Lanka’s bowlers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls After Bizarre Run-Out
The biggest talking point of the opening session was Jaiswal’s dismissal.
The Indian opener had made a positive start and scored 32 from 37 balls, including several attractive strokes. However, his innings ended in unusual circumstances when a mix-up with Rahul resulted in both batters finding themselves at the non-striker’s end.
Jaiswal’s dismissal came after a collision involving the bowler, which contributed to the confusion during the attempted run.
